WWWH of Indian Men's Cricket Team
The Indian men’s cricket team plays for their India in international matches. It is managed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), they compete in Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) games.
Cricket Journey
Their cricket journey began in 1932 against England, with their first win in 1952. The team got stronger in the 1970s with players like Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.
Early Years (1700s–1918) Cricket arrived in India in the early 1700s with the British. The first match was in 1721, and by 1848, the Parsi community formed the first Indian cricket club.
Test Matches (1918–1970) India joined the International Cricket Council in 1926. They won their first Test match in 1952 and became stronger in the 1970s.
ODI and World Cup Success (1970–1985) India’s performance in ODIs improved, leading to their 1983 Cricket World Cup win.
Late 20th Century (1985–2000) The team saw new talent in the late 20th century, including Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble.
21st Century Despite challenges like match-fixing scandals, India excelled, winning various ICC tournaments and medals in major events.
India has won the Cricket World Cup twice, in 1983 and 2011, and the ICC T20 World Cup once in 2007. They also won the ICC Champions Trophy twice in 2002 and 2013. Their success extends to the Asia Cup and the 2022 Asian Games, where they earned a gold medal.
As of May 2024, India ranks first in ODIs and T20Is and second in Tests, making them one of the best teams globally.
